Yoga

The Experimental Journey

I discovered yoga in Montreal in 1992 with Marshall Govindan, who teaches Kriya yoga. The big revelation there was how much our energy is governed by our breath! My natural inquisitive nature led me to explore different styles of yoga, such as Ashtanga, Anusara, Iyengar, Kripalu, Viniyoga etc.. I trained as a teacher with Karen Claffey of Heaven on Earth studio in Montreal in 2003-2004 in the Anusara style of Hatha Yoga.

As I was becoming a certified yoga instructor, I studied with Dr. Ray Long, an orthopaedic surgeon and student of Iyengar, who has perfected his own style of yoga called Bandha Yoga. Dr. Long utilizes specific anatomical keys to fully unlock the practitioner’s potential. He now has an extensive series of books on the practice of yoga that have achieved international recognition.

On to Teaching

I began teaching yoga in Montreal, first in private classes, then at the Joy of Yoga studio and McGill University. In August 2005 I moved to Ottawa, where I taught to a wide range of private and corporate clients as well as at Carleton University, Upward Dog Yoga Centre and Santosha Yoga studio.

Now living in Vancouver, I certified to teach Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark at the Semperviva Yoga studio in January of 2009.

My yoga teaching focuses on structurally aligning the body to use the muscles effectively. I now teach a blend of yin, power and hatha yoga with the help of Yamuna balls, adapting each class to the people I’m working with. I love to promote playfulness in my students.
